Welcome to Nairobi! Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to the Tamarind Tree Hotel.

Day 2 Mon Nairobi-Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
Leaving Nairobi after breakfast, you travel towards Kenya's fertile highlands and head down the rift escarpment on the road built by Italian prisoners of war during World War II. On the way spot the charming chapel built at the foot of the escarpment. Pass the impressive Longonot earth satellite station as you head across the valley to Narok; continue your travels across acres of wheat and barley, before reaching the Masai Mara in time for lunch. Following lunch set off on your first game drive, returning to the lodge as the sun sets.
At the southern end of 1,510 sq km Mara paradise, and right in the path of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra, lies Keekorok Lodge. There is always plenty of activity around the waterhole but during the migration, the lodge is enveloped by the swarming mass of animals. One need hardly venture from ground to game view. From the verandah and from Kiboko Bar, there is plenty to see. One unfortunate zebra met its end right in front of the dinning room, providing supper for a pride of hungry lions, and 'live' entertainment for enthralled guests at Keekorok.
Accommodation at Keekorok Lodge is in bungalows, single story blocks, and in comfortable shaded chalets. The liberal use of cedar wood, pink and gray sand river stone, and other indigenous building materials offset the green lawns and colorful bougainvillea. After a day in the fresh air, the excitement of game spotting, a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, and the ritual of sundowners by the roaring log fire in the lounge heralds an evening full of traditional Maasai dancing, cultural or wildlife lectures and videos with yet another of those remarkable Keekorok dinners.

Day 3 Tue Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
Morning and afternoon game drives are on tap today. In addition to the Big Five, the plains of the Mara might reveal scores of antelopes like the Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, impalas, elands and Coke's hartebeests. Large herds of zebra and wildebeest also dot the plains. If you are a bird-watcher, the Mara offers more than 470 species of birds. Many of the birds are migrant birds and more than 60 species are raptors. Watch for vultures, marabou storks, hornbills, crowned cranes and the dainty lilac-breasted roller, the national bird of Kenya.

Day 4 Wed Masai Mara-Lake Nakuru | Meals: BLD
Leaving the Masai Mara after breakfast, travel across the 'breadbasket' of Kenya, where acres of wheat and barley litter the landscape as you head north to Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. Now travel across the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Nakuru around midday. Once in the park, view game en route to the lodge. Following lunch and a siesta, there is an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge as the sun sets. The national park, known for its birdlife, offers a possibility to view flamingoes. It is also home to Black and White rhinos as well as the endangered Rothschild Giraffe.
Situated in the south east ecological niche of the Lake Nakuru National Park is the Lake Nakuru Lodge, an oasis of comfort and excellent service, with commanding views of the Lesser Flamingo dotted with the Greater Flamingo, for which Lake Nakuru is justly famous. It is another world for the visitor, one where a person easily forgets the hustle and bustle of the city. The lodge blends well with it's surroundings and the animals often browse peacefully close to the lodge and environs, much to the fascination of the visitors.
The Lake Nakuru Lodge is situated in a wonderland which lies in the heart of one of Kenya's most densely animal populated wetland National Parks (Ramsar Site), only two hours leisurely drive - on first class roads - from Nairobi, through some of the most exciting scenery to be seen anywhere in Africa. The 156 Km Nairobi-Nakuru road gives the visitor an unrivalled view of the majestic Great Rift Valley, winding through a series of Lakes and forested uplands all the way to the bustling market town of Nakuru. The views are equally impressive for the visitor who uses a charter aircraft for the 25 minute flight to the Lake Nakuru National Park airstrip situated at the Southern side of the park at the Rhino Sanctuary Headquarters - Naishi.

Day 5 Thu Lake Nakuru-Nairobi | Meals: BL
Following an early breakfast, continue to Lake Naivasha for a boat ride. Leaving the Rift Valley behind, proceed to Nairobi, arriving late morning. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
Continue into the suburbs of Karen to visit the former home of author, Karen von Blixen. The movie, "Out of Africa" brought Blixen's most famous novel to life and this afternoon you can wander through her home and imagine what life must have been like in Kenya in the early 1900's. Then continue to the Giraffe Center for a fun and educational encounter with the exquisite Rothschild giraffes. When the center was founded in 1979, only 120 of the Rothschild giraffe remained in Kenya - and they were on the verge of losing their "home" to a subdivision of property. Through careful breeding and reintroduction to the parks, there are about 300 Rothschild giraffes in Kenya today. In fact, you might see them again when you visit Lake Nakuru, one of the four parks in Kenya chosen to have a relocated herd. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 Fri Nairobi-Arusha-Tarangire | Meals: BLD
An early morning road transfer takes you to Arusha, arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, drive to Tarangire National Park. The drive takes you across the Great Rift Valley and along the fringe of the Maasai Steppe. You will notice herds of cattle being attended by young lads and dotted huts with thatched roofs as you proceed. You arrive at your camp or lodge in the afternoon and have opportunity to soak in the surroundings and enjoy the facilities.

Welcome to Tarangire Simba Lodge. Teeming with wildlife, especially in the dry season, this area is a safari-goers dream. Located near the new Sangaiwe Gate of Tarangire National Park, Tarangire Simba Lodge is situated in a wildlife-rich area with unhampered views to beautiful Lake Burunge, bordered by the park and a Wildlife Management Area. The setting is stunning; with a giant old Baobab tree anchoring one corner and a permeating feeling of real Africa.
The lodge has sixteen classic tents under thatch. Resident wildlife includes lion, zebra, bushbuck, impala, porcupine, monkeys, warthog, mongoose and more. Elephant, buffalo, ostrich and giraffe frequently pass through while the bird life is prolific and vibrant.
Areas surrounding national parks are critical for conservation. The location of Tarangire Simba Lodge creates a buffer between the park and the nearby village areas, which, although currently sparse in population, are under cultivation and could be subject to human/wildlife conflict. We work closely with the rangers at the nearby station to ensure that the wildlife is not compromised.
During the dry season groups of elephant, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra and more come to a small waterhole located in front of the lodge. Lucky guests can watch wildlife right from their rooms or the elevated viewing platform near the pool.
Guests are able to enter, exit and re-enter from the Sangaiwe gate of Tarangire National Park with ease.
Please Take Note: Our lodge is not suitable for guests with ambulatory issues or in wheelchairs; there is no wheelchair access. Children over age six are most welcome at the lodge and must be under parent's supervision at all times. Children under the age of thirteen must share a room with an adult (17 or older).
Accommodation at Tarangire Simba Lodge is in sixteen classic canvas safari tents situated permanently under thatch. The spacious tents are constructed on platforms complete with wooden floors, large en-suite dressing room, toilet and shower. There are twin and queen tents; triples are possible. There is also a family tent with two queen-sized beds. Additionally there is an outdoor shower and each tent has a private veranda with views to the bush and Lake Burunge. Furnishings are handcrafted from African hardwood complimented with tastefully selected fabrics; electricity and hot water are solar powered. Full amenities are provided.
If you're lucky you may see wildlife right from your room or verandah!
Each room has a torch (flashlight) and umbrella for you to use during your stay with us and there is a power strip to charge your devices. There's a secure safe for your valuables. As the solar lighting may be dimmer than you're used to, we highly recommend you bring a headlamp or 'book light' for reading in bed at night.
Due to our solar electrical system it's not possible to use a hair dryer at Tarangire Simba. We kindly request that you don't attempt to plug in a hair dryer as in all likelihood it will blow the system resulting in loss of power to the entire lodge.
We can only accommodate CPAP (sleep apnea machines) if they run on battery power, as we don't have 24-hour electricity. You must be fully versed in how the machine works and able to assist the lodge staff in charging the battery. Please advise when booking if you use this device.

Day 7 Sat Tarangire | Meals: BLD
You set out into Tarangire National Park for a full day of game viewing (with picnic lunch).Thanks to the Tarangire River (which runs through the park), Tarangire is a haven for wildlife and you might find high concentrations of plains game like Thomson's gazelle, buffalo, eland, hartebeest, impala, waterbuck and much more. There are 8 distinct zones in Tarangire, from seasonal swamps to open plains and acacia woodland. Look (and listen) for the spotted hyena whose distinctive "whoop" is often heard through the still of the night. Thanks to the plentiful supply of food, predators like lion, leopard and cheetah are well represented in Tarangire. More than 300 species of birds have been recorded in Tarangire, so keep your eyes peeled for the bateleur eagle, ground hornbill and abundant species of bee-eaters and rollers.

Day 8 Sun Tarangire-Lake Manyara-Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
Depart after an early breakfast and drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Game drive in the park through the morning aiming to leave at around noon. Continue to Karatu or Ngorongoro Conservation Area arriving at your lodge for late lunch. Afternoon visit to Iraqw Cultural Centre.
Welcome to Karatu Simba Lodge where you'll experience the peace and quiet of the Tanzanian countryside. Karatu Simba Lodge is located about a thirty-minute drive from the gate of Lake Manyara National Park, approximately four kilometres off the main road to the entry of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Situated deep in the farming area of the Karatu district and nestled right alongside the Ngorongoro Forest - home to elephant, buffalo, hyena, and other wildlife - Karatu Simba Lodge offers fine hospitality for safari travelers.
On the way to Karatu Simba Lodge you may pass farmers herding cattle, sheep and goats or bullock carts hauling crops or water. Fields of barley, wheat, beans, legumes, corn and sunflowers create a mosaic of color and texture ending at the deep green forest wall, which undulates in hills and valleys up to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, visible in the distance. On arrival you'll receive a warm welcome from the lodge staff, a refreshing drink and a towel to rinse away the dust of your journey.
Karatu Simba Lodge offers a slice of life only to be found in rural Tanzania. Farmers of the local Iraqw tribe, who are natural stewards of the land, manage the few neighboring farms surrounding the lodge. As the seasons gently shift from green to dry with the accompanying cycle of planting, growing and harvesting, the color palate subtly changes. Before the planting season the fields are a rich robust brown, reflecting the fertility of the soil and the promise of crops to come. As the rains swell the seeds and they burst forth from the African earth, a cool green emerges, followed by deeper greens and blossoming heads of sunflowers in the long warm growing season. As the dry season comes to an end the fields are golden with heavy ripening stalks of barley and wheat. After the grain harvest the pigeon peas are still ripening in the field, and as their pods enlarge the elephants may venture from the forest under the cloak of the African night sky for a chance at these tasty treats; only to mostly likely be turned back by the vigilant farmers protecting their crops! The short rains arrive and the cycle begins again with ploughing and planting.
Enjoy the changing view with the seasons in a setting perfect for relaxing after long and dusty safari drives; the only sounds being the distant whistle of the herding boys, the occasional tractor and the chatter and twittering of birds. As the habitat transitions from forest to open grassland and cultivated area, a wonderful landscape for abundant and varied birdlife is created including forest dwellers, weavers, wagtails, sunbirds and others.

Fall asleep to the call of the bush baby and Montane nightjar.
All rooms have a view to the forest, fields and far distant hills. Rooms at Karatu Simba are beautifully and simply decorated with local fabrics and hard wood furniture; the beds all have mosquito nets. Full amenities are provided and rooms are solar powered with solar heated water; there is a power strip for battery charging.

Day 9 Mon Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
You game view on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. This 102 square mile paradise was formed by the collapse of an ancient volcano more than twenty-five million years ago. The resulting rich fertile soil has produced lush vegetation that has attracted more than 30,000 resident mammals and a delicate balance of predator and prey. There is a good chance of seeing the "Big Five" of African wildlife during your day of game driving on the crater's floor. You travel with a picnic lunch, served near a hippo pool. In the afternoon, you return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 Tue Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
Morning and afternoon game drives are on tap today. In addition to the Big Five, the plains of the Mara might reveal scores of antelopes like the Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, impalas, elands and Coke's hartebeests. Large herds of zebra and wildebeest also dot the plains. If you are a bird-watcher, the Mara offers more than 470 species of birds. Many of the birds are migrant birds and more than 60 species are raptors. Watch for vultures, marabou storks, hornbills, crowned cranes and the dainty lilac-breasted roller, the national bird of Kenya.
Keekorok Lodge
At the southern end of 1,510 sq km Mara paradise, and right in the path of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra, lies Keekorok Lodge. There is always plenty of activity around the waterhole but during the migration, the lodge is enveloped by the swarming mass of animals. One need hardly venture from ground to game view. From the verandah and from Kiboko Bar, there is plenty to see. Day 4 Wed Masai Mara-Lake Nakuru | Meals: BLD
Leaving the Masai Mara after breakfast, travel across the 'breadbasket' of Kenya, where acres of wheat and barley litter the landscape as you head north to Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. Now travel across the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley, arriving at Lake Nakuru around midday. Once in the park, view game en route to the lodge. Following lunch and a siesta, there is an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge as the sun sets. The national park, known for its birdlife, offers a possibility to view flamingoes. It is also home to Black and White rhinos as well as the endangered Rothschild Giraffe.
Lake Nakuru Lodge
Situated in the south east ecological niche of the Lake Nakuru National Park is the Lake Nakuru Lodge, an oasis of comfort and excellent service, with commanding views of the Lesser Flamingo dotted with the Greater Flamingo, for which Lake Nakuru is justly famous. It is another world for the visitor, one where a person easily forgets the hustle and bustle of the city. The lodge blends well with it's surroundings and the animals often browse peacefully close to the lodge and environs, much to the fascination of the visitors.

Day 5 Thu Lake Nakuru-Nairobi | Meals: BL
Following an early breakfast, continue to Lake Naivasha for a boat ride. Leaving the Rift Valley behind, proceed to Nairobi, arriving late morning. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
Continue into the suburbs of Karen to visit the former home of author, Karen von Blixen. The movie, "Out of Africa" brought Blixen's most famous novel to life and this afternoon you can wander through her home and imagine what life must have been like in Kenya in the early 1900's. Then continue to the Giraffe Center for a fun and educational encounter with the exquisite Rothschild giraffes. When the center was founded in 1979, only 120 of the Rothschild giraffe remained in Kenya - and they were on the verge of losing their "home" to a subdivision of property. Through careful breeding and reintroduction to the parks, there are about 300 Rothschild giraffes in Kenya today. In fact, you might see them again when you visit Lake Nakuru, one of the four parks in Kenya chosen to have a relocated herd. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 Fri Nairobi-Arusha-Tarangire | Meals: BLD
An early morning road transfer takes you to Arusha, arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, drive to Tarangire National Park. The drive takes you across the Great Rift Valley and along the fringe of the Maasai Steppe. You will notice herds of cattle being attended by young lads and dotted huts with thatched roofs as you proceed. You arrive at your camp or lodge in the afternoon and have opportunity to soak in the surroundings and enjoy the facilities.

Welcome to Tarangire Simba Lodge. Teeming with wildlife, especially in the dry season, this area is a safari-goers dream. Located near the new Sangaiwe Gate of Tarangire National Park, Tarangire Simba Lodge is situated in a wildlife-rich area with unhampered views to beautiful Lake Burunge, bordered by the park and a Wildlife Management Area. The setting is stunning; with a giant old Baobab tree anchoring one corner and a permeating feeling of real Africa.
The lodge has sixteen classic tents under thatch. Resident wildlife includes lion, zebra, bushbuck, impala, porcupine, monkeys, warthog, mongoose and more. Elephant, buffalo, ostrich and giraffe frequently pass through while the bird life is prolific and vibrant.
Areas surrounding national parks are critical for conservation. The location of Tarangire Simba Lodge creates a buffer between the park and the nearby village areas, which, although currently sparse in population, are under cultivation and could be subject to human/wildlife conflict. We work closely with the rangers at the nearby station to ensure that the wildlife is not compromised.
During the dry season groups of elephant, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra and more come to a small waterhole located in front of the lodge. Lucky guests can watch wildlife right from their rooms or the elevated viewing platform near the pool.
Guests are able to enter, exit and re-enter from the Sangaiwe gate of Tarangire National Park with ease.

Children over age six are most welcome at the lodge and must be under parent's supervision at all times. Children under the age of thirteen must share a room with an adult (17 or older).

There is also a family tent with two queen-sized beds. Additionally there is an outdoor shower and each tent has a private veranda with views to the bush and Lake Burunge. Furnishings are handcrafted from African hardwood complimented with tastefully selected fabrics; electricity and hot water are solar powered. Full amenities are provided.

Each room has a torch (flashlight) and umbrella for you to use during your stay with us and there is a power strip to charge your devices. There's a secure safe for your valuables. As the solar lighting may be dimmer than you're used to, we highly recommend you bring a headlamp or 'book light' for reading in bed at night.
Due to our solar electrical system it's not possible to use a hair dryer at Tarangire Simba. We kindly request that you don't attempt to plug in a hair dryer as in all likelihood it will blow the system resulting in loss of power to the entire lodge.
We can only accommodate CPAP (sleep apnea machines) if they run on battery power, as we don't have 24-hour electricity. You must be fully versed in how the machine works and able to assist the lodge staff in charging the battery. Please advise when booking if you use this device.

Day 7 Sat Tarangire | Meals: BLD
You set out into Tarangire National Park for a full day of game viewing (with picnic lunch).Thanks to the Tarangire River (which runs through the park), Tarangire is a haven for wildlife and you might find high concentrations of plains game like Thomson's gazelle, buffalo, eland, hartebeest, impala, waterbuck and much more. There are 8 distinct zones in Tarangire, from seasonal swamps to open plains and acacia woodland. Look (and listen) for the spotted hyena whose distinctive "whoop" is often heard through the still of the night. Thanks to the plentiful supply of food, predators like lion, leopard and cheetah are well represented in Tarangire. More than 300 species of birds have been recorded in Tarangire, so keep your eyes peeled for the bateleur eagle, ground hornbill and abundant species of bee-eaters and rollers.

Day 8 Sun Tarangire-Lake Manyara-Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
Depart after an early breakfast and drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Game drive in the park through the morning aiming to leave at around noon. Continue to Karatu or Ngorongoro Conservation Area arriving at your lodge for late lunch. Afternoon visit to Iraqw Cultural Centre.

Welcome to Karatu Simba Lodge where you'll experience the peace and quiet of the Tanzanian countryside. Karatu Simba Lodge is located about a thirty-minute drive from the gate of Lake Manyara National Park, approximately four kilometres off the main road to the entry of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Situated deep in the farming area of the Karatu district and nestled right alongside the Ngorongoro Forest - home to elephant, buffalo, hyena, and other wildlife - Karatu Simba Lodge offers fine hospitality for safari travelers.
On the way to Karatu Simba Lodge you may pass farmers herding cattle, sheep and goats or bullock carts hauling crops or water. Fields of barley, wheat, beans, legumes, corn and sunflowers create a mosaic of color and texture ending at the deep green forest wall, which undulates in hills and valleys up to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, visible in the distance. On arrival you'll receive a warm welcome from the lodge staff, a refreshing drink and a towel to rinse away the dust of your journey.
Karatu Simba Lodge offers a slice of life only to be found in rural Tanzania. Farmers of the local Iraqw tribe, who are natural stewards of the land, manage the few neighboring farms surrounding the lodge. As the seasons gently shift from green to dry with the accompanying cycle of planting, growing and harvesting, the color palate subtly changes. Before the planting season the fields are a rich robust brown, reflecting the fertility of the soil and the promise of crops to come. As the rains swell the seeds and they burst forth from the African earth, a cool green emerges, followed by deeper greens and blossoming heads of sunflowers in the long warm growing season. As the dry season comes to an end the fields are golden with heavy ripening stalks of barley and wheat. After the grain harvest the pigeon peas are still ripening in the field, and as their pods enlarge the elephants may venture from the forest under the cloak of the African night sky for a chance at these tasty treats; only to mostly likely be turned back by the vigilant farmers protecting their crops! The short rains arrive and the cycle begins again with ploughing and planting.
Enjoy the changing view with the seasons in a setting perfect for relaxing after long and dusty safari drives; the only sounds being the distant whistle of the herding boys, the occasional tractor and the chatter and twittering of birds. As the habitat transitions from forest to open grassland and cultivated area, a wonderful landscape for abundant and varied birdlife is created including forest dwellers, weavers, wagtails, sunbirds and others.

Day 9 Mon Ngorongoro | Meals: BLD
You game view on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. This 102 square mile paradise was formed by the collapse of an ancient volcano more than twenty-five million years ago. The resulting rich fertile soil has produced lush vegetation that has attracted more than 30,000 resident mammals and a delicate balance of predator and prey. There is a good chance of seeing the "Big Five" of African wildlife during your day of game driving on the crater's floor. You travel with a picnic lunch, served near a hippo pool. In the afternoon, you return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
