Welcome to Botswana! Upon arrival in Maun, connect to the light aircraft flight to Tau Pan, set in the Central Kalahari.
Nothing prepares you for the immensity of this reserve, nor its wild, mysterious beauty. There is the immediate impression of unending space, and having the entire reserve to yourself. Waist-high golden grasses seem to stretch interminably, punctuated by dwarfed trees and scrub bushes. Wide and empty pans appear as vast white stretches of saucer-flat earth, meeting a soft, blue-white sky. At night the stars utterly dominate the land; their brilliance and immediacy are totally arresting.
The Central Kalahari game Reserve (CKGR) is the largest, most remotely situated reserve in Southern Africa, and the second largest wildlife reserve in the world, encompassing 52 800 sq kms. During and shortly after good summer rains, the flat grasslands of the reserve's northern reaches teem with wildlife, which gather at the best grazing areas. Excellent game viewing is possible from the comfort of your rooms as the water hole in front of the camp draws a multitude of mammal species.

In addition to game drives, you must visit the nearby famous Baines' Baobabs. These seven huge gnarled baobab trees are named after Thomas Baines, the famous explorer of the 19th century. The intrepid explorer, naturalist and cartographer and his fellow explorer James Chapman traveled through this area in the mid 1800's on their two year journey from Namibia to Victoria Fall. Baines' portraits of the area, including the huger baobabs became an important first-hand account of the area and the period in Southern Africa's history.

Today your journey continues as your light aircraft flight takes you to your camp in the heart of the Okavango Delta. This well known camp is set overlooking a secluded lagoon in the northern Okavango Delta. This region offers a contrasting experience, as its location allows access to the permanent waterways of the Delta as well as expansive dry land areas, admired for their quality game viewing.
Kwara offers, within the exclusive concession in which it is located, a wide variety of activities. In addition to game drives, both day and night, the camp offers game walks and mokoro trips, as well as power boating and fishing (spinning equipment is provided but fly fisherman need to bring their own equipment).
Kwara is located in the remote northern part of the stunning Okavango Delta within the private Kwara concession. The camp fronts onto a huge floodplain, adjacent to the permanent water of the Delta and is backed by extensive bush. It is a magnificent wilderness area in excess of 1,700 square kilometres, bordering the Moremi Reserve. While game viewing from a vehicle allows one to see more animals as you traverse much greater distances and get much closer to animals safely, there is nothing as awe inspiring and humbling as observing wild animals on foot. Many smaller species of plants and insects, tracks and signs are all easily missed when in a vehicle. The slow pace of the walk and interpretative skills of your guide will open your eyes to a new and fascinating world.

Like the other Kwando camps, Kwara offers exclusive and private traverse for all its varied activities.
Here our guests can enjoy a diverse wildlife experience all year-round, but the focus is definitely on the water. Whether gliding along in the special silence of a mekoro dug out canoe through crystal-clear waters or visiting the famous Godikwe lagoon, where you can stand on a boat literally eye to eye with thousands of herons, storks and other nesting birds. Kwara is the nearest camp to this famous spectacle in Moremi Game Reserve.
Other species you can encounter through the channels and rivers are kingfishers, pygmy geese, fish eagles, jacanas, darters and if you're really fortunate, the elusive Pels Fishing Owl.
Along with the bird watching, we're able to offer fishing (spinner fishing, but please feel free to bring your own equipment should you want to fly fish), walks with a guide on one of the many palm-fringed islands and also spectacular night drives on top of our morning and afternoon drives. The beauty and charm of Kwara will captivate you.
The Kwara area is also home to a variety of wild animals including, lechwe, sitatunga, reedbuck, bushbuck, hippo, crocodiles, elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and tsessebe. Lion, hyaena, wild dog, leopard and cheetah are abundant in this part of the Delta and regularly seen.

Your time in the bush comes to an end today as a light aircraft flight brings you back to Maun to begin your journey home. Or, why not extend your time in Botswana, or continue on to Victoria Falls or Cape Town. The options are endless.
