Day 2  Nairobi | Meals: BD
It's a leisurely morning today, giving you time to refresh after your flights. Sleep in or enjoy a late breakfast. Early this afternoon, travel into the suburb of Karen to visit the former home of "Out of Africa" author Karen von Blixen, which is now a museum. If you saw the movie, you'll find some familiar things in the house. Stroll the lush grounds before leaving for the short drive to the Giraffe Center. Be ready for a fun interaction with the graceful Rothschild Giraffes, who will come right up to you to grab a tasty treat. Return to the hotel late the afternoon.

Day 3  Nairobi-Amboseli | Meals: BLD
A light aircraft flight takes you to Amboseli, perhaps one of best vantage points to see towering Mt. Kilimanjaro. But Amboseli is best known for its elephants, and the amazing research conducted by Cynthia Moss. Moss began her research of the elephants of Amboseli in 1972, making it one of the longest studied populations of free animals in the world. Settle in at your luxury tented camp and enjoy lunch before heading out on an afternoon game drive.

Tortillis Tented Camp

The camp won the British Airways regional award for ecotourism and has earned an international reputation for its commitment to the environment with its rustic simplicity, unobtrusive design and attention to comfort without compromising the ecosystem. The tents are large, the emphasis is on service and comfort.

Each tent leads from a bedroom with expansive king-size or generous twin beds, through a dressing area into modern bathrooms with pressured hot showers and flush toilets.

Each tent is raised up on a wooden deck and sheltered by a makuti (thatched) roof overhanging a large verandah, ideal for an early afternoon siesta...

×

Day 4  Amboseli | Meals: BLD
Rise early for your first game drive today. In addition to the famous elephant population, Amboseli is host to a wide array of other game. You'll likely spot buffalo, giraffe, lesser kudu, and zebra; along with the Big Cats like lion, cheetah and leopard. Birders will delight in the more than 600 recorded species spotted in Amboseli. Later this afternoon, why not participate on a game walk. Escorted by a qualified ranger, a walk can give you a completely different perspective of the African bush. You'll learn about following tracks, the important role of insects and perhaps even learn about the medicinal uses of certain trees and plants.

Day 5  Amboseli-Great Rift Valley | Meals: BLD
A light aircraft flight takes you back to Nairobi and then on to Lake Naivasha and the intimate Loldia House tucked along the shores of Lake Naivasha. A stay at Loldia House is reminiscent of early days in Kenya, as it was originally a farmhouse. Activities here are designed around your schedule. Explore the property, visit a nearby flower farm or even take in a round of golf. You can game view in Lake Nakuru National Park or take a boat trip on Lake Naivasha.

Loldia House

At Loldia House you?ll experience the life of Kenya?s early settlers, the pioneers who cleared the forests and first farmed the rich highlands.

Loldia ranch was established by a family who trekked by ox-wagon from South Africa a century ago. Today their descendants still own the land. The original farmhouse is managed for visitors by Governors? Camps. It?s an ideal spot to relax, taste the pleasures of Kenyan country life and explore the Great Rift Valley.

Loldia House, built in the Second World War, nestles under ancient Acacia trees. Lush lawns run down to the shores of Lake Naivasha, the Great Rift Valley?s highest and purest lake. Indigenous plants and flowers fill the gardens.

There are beautiful views of the dormant volcano, Mount Longonot. Wild animals roam free on the farm. Small antelope wander through the gardens. In the evenings hippo munch quietly by the waterside.

We?ve kept the original character of the house: comfy chairs surround a huge fireplace; paintings by an artist who lives on the farm hang on the walls; a deep and shady veranda to relax on and sunbeds in the garden.

In the main house there?s a choice of four en-suite double rooms, with original furniture. And three more rooms in the specially-built Loldia cottage which has it?s own sitting-room, fire and panoramic lake-views.

Mouth-watering meals, with fish and shrimp from the lake, are served under the trees or in the old dining room. Britain?s Country Life Magazine even described Loldia?s manager as "probably the best butler in the world".

Day 6  Great Rift Valley | Meals: BLD
A full day to enjoy the surroundings. You have gorgeous views of the Lake and nearby Mt. Longonot. Today you might wish to take another game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park or perhaps visit a nearby school. More than 400 species of birds have been seen in the Rift Valley and Loldia House has a resident ornithologist who can help you identify some of the birds in the area.

Day 7  Rift Valley-Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
A light aircraft flight takes us to our luxury camp alongside the Mara River today. The Masai Mara is Kenya's most famous national park and soon you will see why. BBC's "Big Cat Diary" is filmed in this part of the Mara, so be on the lookout for the Big Cats. If you are lucky, you might spot lion, cheetah and leopard here. Settle into your camp for an exciting 3 night stay.

Governors Il Moran Camp

The camp for those who want that extra bit of luxury.

Il Moran recreates the atmosphere of the original hunting camps. Hidden under ancient trees, deep in the forest, are just 10 tents. They line the winding banks of the Mara River.

Newly refurbished in 2018, Il Moran Camp is hidden in the cool shade of the riverine forest that follows the bends of the Mara River. Each tent enjoys a private location from which to enjoy the beautiful and serene setting. Hippos wallow in the river waters below, elephants wander through camp, and the night time is punctuated by hyena whoops and lion calls.

Each canvassed room is expansive and newly furnished to a superior standard. Beautiful old wood furniture and muted natural tones are a natural extension of the environment around. Each stylish bathroom boasts a Victorian style bath and his & her vanities. A large verandah is designed for relaxing in comfort in the peaceful surroundings.

Small and supremely personal in nature, Il Moran is a chic and intimate retreat in the best wildlife location in Kenya and arguably Africa. A brand new dining and lounge area set along the riverfront is beautifully furnished and our superior team of chefs create dishes that tantalize the eyes and taste buds.

Day 8 & 9  Masai Mara | Meals: BLD
Two full days in the Masai Mara are filled with game viewing opportunities. Rise early each morning and go out on a game drive with an experienced driver-guide. You'll be amazed at both their eyesight and their knowledge in spotting wildlife. You also have time to take a walking safari with an experienced naturalist if you like. You'll walk in a private concession area next to the Masai Mara, with different scenery than the Masai Mara. (Walks usually last about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. There are no walking paths, so you need to be in good condition and able to traverse rocky terrain by foot.)
